How Women's Truth-Telling Changes History

Lions Gate season is here and up-levels are happening. This is a powerful portal to step into your truth, shed layers holding you back as a leader and shed outdated wounds to step up.

Last week I stepped into my Spirit Dance session at David Lloyd, taught by one of my now clients, Charlie Chazel, born on 8/8. Her energy is electric; her classes are naturally healing and fun. Spirit Dance is exciting for David Lloyd, a mainstream gym, because it is basically ecstatic dancing with headphones. I absolutely adore it, for me it gifts me somatic healing, completely letting go of my mind and dropping into my body. The benefits are profound: it releases stored trauma and tension from the nervous system, helps regulate emotions naturally, reconnects you with your authentic self, and creates a safe space for emotional expression without words.

As someone with ADHD, this embodied practice helps quieten mental chatter whilst allowing creative energy to flow freely... it's bliss! The reason I'm telling you about this, though, is because it awakened a channelled download which has given me a new level of excitement for this year's Soul Speaks. I had a vision of all of our ancestors that couldn't speak up...

Throughout history, women who dared to speak their truth, stand in their power, and challenge the status quo have faced persecution, silencing, and even death. Yet their courage has continuously reshaped the world, creating ripples that have grown into waves of lasting change. Today, we stand on the shoulders of these fierce women, and it's time to recognise that every woman who steps into her power is continuing this sacred lineage of transformation.

Overcoming the silence

The European witch trials of the 15th-18th centuries weren't really about magic—they were about power. The women branded as "witches" were often healers, midwives, herbalists, and independent thinkers who possessed knowledge that threatened patriarchal structures. They were confident women who lived outside traditional roles, who spoke up, who questioned authority.

These women understood the power of plants, the cycles of nature, and the strength of community. They were teachers, leaders, and truth-tellers. Their crime? Refusing to be silenced.

An estimated 40,000-60,000 people were executed during the witch trials, with women comprising 75-85% of victims. This systematic persecution sent a clear message: women who step into their power will face consequences. The fear instilled by these centuries of violence created generations of women who learned to dim their light, hide their gifts, and speak in whispers.

When Fear Finally Lost Its Power

The witch trials didn't end overnight—they faded as Enlightenment thinking spread and legal systems evolved. By the mid-1700s, most European countries had stopped executing "witches." The fear that had controlled women for centuries was finally losing its grip, but the psychological scars ran deep.

What ended the trials wasn't just changing laws—it was brave women who refused to stay silent, who slowly began to step back into their power despite the generational trauma that whispered "it's not safe to be seen."

The Turning Tide: When Women Refused to Stay Silent

Throughout the centuries following the witch trials, brave women emerged to break the silence and reclaim their power, each one proving that it was finally safe to step into the light:

Joan of Arc (1412-1431) claimed divine guidance and convinced the French court to let her lead military campaigns. Though she was eventually executed, her courage inspired a nation and proved that a young woman could change the course of history.

Sojourner Truth (1797-1883) escaped slavery and became a powerful orator for abolition and women's rights. Her famous "Ain't I a Woman?" speech challenged both racial and gender discrimination, showing how truth-telling could dismantle systems of oppression.

Marie Curie (1867-1934) became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person to win Nobel Prizes in two different sciences, and the first female professor at the University of Paris. She refused to let gender barriers limit her scientific pursuits.

Rosa Parks (1913-2005) knew that her refusal to give up her bus seat would spark controversy, but she chose to act anyway. Her single moment of standing in her truth catalyzed the Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped launch the Civil Rights Movement.

Malala Yousafzai (1997-present) continued advocating for girls' education even after being shot by the Taliban. Her unwavering commitment to her truth earned her the Nobel Peace Prize at age 17.

The Pattern of Transformation

Each of these women followed a similar pattern:

  • They recognised an injustice or limitation
  • They chose to speak their truth despite the risks
  • They faced opposition, sometimes violent
  • They persisted anyway
  • Their courage created lasting change that benefited countless others

This isn't coincidence, this is the blueprint for how social transformation happens. It starts with one woman who decides her truth matters more than her comfort.

Modern-Day Truth-Tellers: Breaking Today's Taboos

Today's women are continuing this legacy of brave truth-telling, using their platforms to shatter stigmas that keep women small:

Davina McCall transformed the conversation around menopause from whispered shame to empowered dialogue. Through her documentaries and advocacy, she gave millions of women permission to speak openly about a natural life stage that had been shrouded in shame and secrecy for generations in western culture, this is something in eastern culture that is shamed and called disgusting to speak of.

Tanya Barnard, our upcoming headline speaker, has courageously raised awareness for ADHD, breaking down the misconceptions and stigma surrounding neurodivergence. By sharing her own journey and expertise, she's helping countless women understand and embrace their unique minds rather than hiding their differences.

Kirsty Gallagher, last year's headline speaker, unlocked her own "witch wound" to become a wayshower for astrology and the rise of the divine feminine and masculine. She transformed her ancestral fear of spiritual persecution into a platform that helps others reclaim their intuitive gifts without shame.

Brené Brown revolutionized how we talk about vulnerability and shame, making it safe for people to discuss their struggles openly rather than hiding behind perfectionism.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie challenged single stories and brought African feminist perspectives to global stages, refusing to let others define what feminism should look like.

Greta Thunberg sparked a worldwide climate movement as a teenager, proving that age and traditional authority structures don't determine who gets to speak truth to power.

Jameela Jamil leveraged her visibility to challenge diet culture and body shaming, creating movements that help women reject toxic beauty standards.

These women didn't wait for permission. They saw a need, trusted their voice, and stepped into their power. They understood that their individual truth-telling could create collective transformation. Most importantly, they used their visibility to remove stigma from topics that had kept women isolated and ashamed—and they're doing it right here at Soul Speaks events.

From Hiding to Healing

For generations after the witch trials ended, women carried the cellular memory of danger. They learned to make themselves small, to share their wisdom only in hushed circles, to dim their light for safety. This wasn't just personal fear, it was ancestral trauma passed down through bloodlines and collective consciousness.

Your grandmother might have hidden her intuition. Your great-grandmother might have downplayed her healing abilities. Your ancestors might have shared their knowledge only behind closed doors, in whispered conversations, in coded language that wouldn't draw attention.

They survived by staying invisible. But you - you get to thrive by being ultra-visible.

The Burning Times Are Over: The literal witch trials ended centuries ago, and the metaphorical ones are ending now. You live in a time when a woman's power is celebrated, not feared. When your success inspires others instead of threatening them.

Your Visibility Heals Generations: Every time you show up boldly, share your gifts openly, and build your empire unapologetically, you're telling your ancestors: "The hiding is over. The whispering is over. It's safe to be seen now."

Ultra-Visibility is Your Birthright: Your ancestors had to hide their light to survive. You get to shine yours to thrive. This isn't just permission, it's your responsibility to the women who came before you and the girls who will come after you.

Soul Speaks is designed to help you break the generational patterns of hiding:

Remove the Ancestral Fear: That voice telling you to "stay small" or "don't draw attention"? That's not your voice—that's the voice of survival that your ancestors needed but you no longer do. We help you distinguish between ancestral programming and your authentic power.

Transform Secrecy into Sovereignty: Where your ancestors had to share wisdom in secret circles, you get to build public platforms. Where they whispered their truths, you get to proclaim them. Where they hid their gifts, you get to monetise them.

Build Visible Community: The women who were called witches understood the power of the circle, but they had to meet in darkness. Soul Speaks creates circles of light visible, powerful, and unashamed communities of women rising together.

Profit from Your Purpose Openly: Your ancestors might have been healers, teachers, and wise women who had to hide their abilities. You get to turn those same gifts into thriving businesses. You get to be compensated for your wisdom. You get to build wealth from your purpose.

Create a Legacy in the Light: Every woman who builds a successful, purpose-driven business becomes living proof that the age of hiding is over. Your success becomes a beacon for other women, showing them that it's not only safe to be powerful it's essential.

Your Moment is Now

You are the answer to your ancestors' prayers. You are the woman they dreamed would one day be free to shine without fear. Every time you step into ultra-visibility, you're completing a healing that began centuries ago.

Your ancestors couldn't be seen for their power—you get to be seen because of it. Your ancestors had to hide their gifts—you get to showcase yours. Your ancestors whispered their wisdom—you get to shout it from the rooftops. Your ancestors survived in the shadows—you get to thrive in the spotlight.

The question isn't whether you have something important to say, you do, and it's been waiting for generations to be heard.

The question isn't whether the world needs your gifts, it does, and your ancestors knew it.

The question is: Will you honor their sacrifice by finally stepping into the light they could never safely inhabit?

Every time you share your story boldly, build your business publicly, or speak your truth without apology, you're not just creating your own success, you're completing a generational healing.

You're telling every woman in your lineage who had to hide: "The hiding is over.

The fear is over. It's finally safe to be everything we were born to be."
